About New Life

This little girl, Ruby, has lived at New Life since she was
a baby, along with her twin, Ruth, and older sister, Doris.
New Life runs a children's home and a school in the village of Ansepetu, near Cape Coast in Ghana. Around forty children live at the home, but many more come from nearby villages to attend school there. It was started by Ruby Ayivorh in 1998. Ruby is a retired nurse and has always been concerned with the welfare of others, particularly children. Her son, Derrick Fletcher-Gaisie, and daughter, Jacqueline Hinson, are now in charge of the day-to-day running of the Home and school.

Fundraising for New Life

I visited New Life during a pre-university gap year. I went on to found the organisation Children's Helpers Worldwide (CHW). CHW supports locally-run children's projects in five countries. We first started fundraising for projects for the children New Life. I am fundraising for CHW's current projects with New Life by asking for donations in exchange for the calendars.

With Jacqueline, the daughter of the founder of New Life. We are standing outside the new classroom CHW fundraised for. Building was still in progress at the time.  The classroom is now a computer lab.

Derrick, the son of the founder of New Life, with some of the children in the computer lab. This is the classroom which was built with funding from CHW. (Computers are from another organisation.)

Your donations for the calendars will support the following projects:

Playground Project

A few years ago, CHW donated some play equipment. As the only playground in the area, it was quite a novelty, and lots children from outside the Home come to play everyday too. It is so well-loved that it has become worn! New Life asked CHW for the funds to repair and extend the playground, and make sure all these children have a good, and safe, play area. We need to raise £2995. This project will bering happiness to a lot of children!

There is more info about this project, and CHW's work with New Life here. You can follow the progress of the playground project here:

School Bus

If enough funds are raised to repair and extend the playground, any left over donations will go towards  buying a school bus for New Life. This is a very big project that CHW hopes to contribute to. Unlike the playground project, it is not only CHW that is fundraising for this. A facebook group has been started by Derrick, the director of New Life, and some volunteers who have worked with the children. You can visit the group here
